Support Engineers (Permanent)

Due to a rapidly growing client base, Kineo is urgently seeking UK based Support Engineers to work at our Brighton (UK) office. This person will work in close partnership with our global teams, supporting a fast growing client base.

The role entails:

  • Providing Kineo’s clients and internal teams with high quality and efficient technical support, for all Kineo’s hosting platforms and software deployments.
  • Maintaing a proactive approach towards the correct implementation of process and security controls, ensuring the stability and effectiveness of Kineo’s deliverables.
  • Fulfilling a key role that will help place Kineo as the global de facto in Moodle/Totara hosting and support.

This role may involve shift work, to help support our global client base and provide increased cover during staff absences.

Essential Skills

  • Web server monitoring, troubleshooting and maintenance, plus administration of open source web applications
  • LAMP and WAMP server setup, configuration and maintenance, plus experience in MySQL database administration
  • Strong customer service focus and mentality and strong oral and written communication skills
  • User Interface languages: DHTML/XHTML, CSS
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of staff and an intelligent approach to problem solving, with proactive, can-do attitude


Desirable Skills

  • Support desk experience and an understanding of open source software, development and communities
  • Experience in PHP programming and open source project experience (code, documentation, fixes, etc)
  • Experience with web content management systems, learning platforms, customer relationship management or team collaboration tools
  • Experience with QA management and automation tools
  • Web services programming
  • Moodle experience or any exposure to supporting any other Learning Management System a distinct advantage

E-learning and LMS Solutions Consultant

We're currently recruiting for a new role as Solutions Consultant to join our sales team. You could be based anywhere in the UK, though proximity to a Kineo office (London, Brighton or Sheffield) is preferable.

Your main role will be to lead on e-learning, content and LMS sales opportunities including discussing requirements with clients and putting together appropriate solutions, and will see you reporting to the Head of Solutions. Responsibilities will include prospecting and account managing Kineo clients, understanding their needs and developing solutions in collaboration with our teams, taking a sales target and being rewarded for sales of Kineo’s solutions.

You will have ideally sales and/or production experience in e-learning and/or LMS. You must be a highly enthusiastic, flexible and dynamic individual comfortable working in a fast-paced growth company, on multiple activities and projects with tight deadlines, with strong communication skills: capable of explaining rationale of decisions to clients, communicating progress and updates to clients and to colleagues, communicating design aspects and requirements to graphic designers and technical team members.

Other desirable characteristics are experience in Moodle and open-source software, and experience with e-learning design.

LMS Implementation Consultant

We are looking for an LMS Implementation Consultant to join our team in Brighton.

You’ll be working directly with clients to guide them through the implementation of our LMS. Typical tasks involve showing and explaining features to clients (via webinar or face to face), gathering specific requirements, configuring the LMS accordingly, uploading content and working with the Art Directors in our team to skin the LMS in accordance with the client’s brand and visual identity.

You will be given full training and you’ll learn all about Totara and the implementation process. As part of this, you will work with our experienced Project Managers, Art Directors and Developers and quickly progress to taking on a lead role on projects.

You’ll be working in a fast paced environment, where you’ll need to think on your feet and use your initiative. This role is best suited to an enthusiastic and outgoing person, who enjoys working with people, as part of a team and has an eye for detail. There are plenty of career opportunities and professional development options within Kineo for ambitious people.

Our LMS team is in demand and to keep up we’re looking for graduate, junior and middleweight developers to join us. We’re after people who can produce good object oriented code in a language of their choice and have a working knowledge of some or most of the technologies that we use. The team you will join is very supportive and you will be given the help you need to improve your skills within our tool-set. Day to day you’ll be building plugins, enhancements and bug fixes for Moodle and Totara LMS's (Totara is an open source Moodle distribution aimed at the corporate market), working with our project managers and solution architects to ensure clients get what they ask for.

We use, and you will need skills in, the following:

  • HTML, CSS, Javascript, Jquery
  • PHP 5 - we write object oriented, MVC based code but maintain legacy, procedural code.

PHP Developers - Graduate, Junior & Middleweight

Our LMS team is in demand and to keep up we’re looking for front end developers at any level to join us. We’re after people who can produce good, clean, cross browser HTML, CSS, Javascript and have a wish to gain experience in some of the technologies that we use. The team you will join is very supportive and you will be given the help you need to improve your skills within our tool-set. Day to day you’ll be building HTML templates from wire-frames, implementing themes within Moodle and Totara to a style guide or piece of art direction, and fixing bugs. You will be working with our project managers, PHP developers and art directors to ensure clients get a stylish and usable site.

You will have experience of:

  • HTML
  • CSS
  • Javascript
  • Cross browser compatibility

Senior Software Tester (Brighton)

We are looking for a Senior Software Tester to join our team in Brighton. You’ll be leading the testing of customised instances of Moodle and Totara to ensure releases to our clients are fit for purpose and bug free.

More specifically you’ll be responsible for creating test scripts & test data, carrying out both functional and cross-browser/platform testing and writing user documentation. We are also looking for someone who can make a positive contribution to the ongoing development of our testing processes and tools.

You will ideally have at least three years experience of web application software testing in a commercial environment.

The role also requires:

  • excellent attention to detail and methodical approach
  • excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • the ability to work to deadlines and prioritise tasks under pressure
  • the ability to be proactive and work under your own initiative
  • the abiltiy to motivate and lead a team
  • a general understanding of web technologies and QA realted issues

Futher desirable characteristics include an understanding of / interest in load testing, automation tools, open source software and accessibility. Familiarity with Moodle or other Larning Management Systems and a relevant background degree (e.g. Computer Science) are beneficial.
